Hi,

I am new to marine keeping but became addicted following setting up a Bayu 550TL. Recently upgraded to a Red Sea Max 250 which I feel is perfect for our needs and suits the surroundings really well.

I've attached a picture of the new set up.

I intend using the old tank to grow on frags.

I will update as I go along.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

and its the rsm 250

imo lot of money for what you get

but still buetiful

Thats a nice start.

What CUC, fish and corals do you have in there already and what fish are you fancying to add??

Currently have 8 hermit crabs, 8 turbos and 8 detritus snails. Will probably transfer some to the other tank once this one is more established. I have a jewel blennie, cleaner wrasse, 6 line wrasse, 2 humbugs and royal gamma. Have 6 soft corals at moment. will try to put some photos on later.

I am not sure how many more fish I can have in the tank but would like a fire fish, goby ,a cardinal and a dwarf angel probably a coral beauty

Will look at introducing shrimps soon. Not sure whether to go for all of one sort or mix them. Like the look of both cleaner and blood shrimp.Did ask the question before but did not get a clear answer. Any advice on numbers and compatability of all shrimps would be welcomed.

You will regret putting cleaner shrimps in, they climb all over the corals  get a fire shrimp and some peppermints :good:

ps nice start to your journel

The local marine stores locally don`t seem to sell anything other than cleaner or blood shrimps. Are blood shrimps any better?

I am a bit confused over keeping hard and soft corals. I would like to have a plating montipora but some people are saying you can keep them with the corals I have got and others are saying that you cant. Maybe somebody could have a look at the photos and advise me.

Thanks again for everyones advice.

You can keep hard and soft corals together as long as you have the lighting and test your water for calcium, mag and ak :good: as we have already talked about some run carbon when housing them together.

i saw a great softies tank today, why don't you concentrate on those for the moment as you have several now

woops, sorry - yes the blood shrimp are fine, hide most of the time but come out at night to scavenge, will also come out when you feed

Blood shrimp and fire shrimp are the same shrimp. Lysmateus debelius.

Looks like you have some nice corals.

As Seffie says, as long as you have the correct lighting and are using carbon, soft and hard corals can be kept together, look at my journal, I have lots of hard corals with my soft.

I do have to supplement Alk, Mag, Ca and Strontium now though. If you supplement anything, you need to test for it.
