Hi there

We have naturally let our tropical fish tank become unstocked ( we havent re-stocked after losing fish)

We are now looking to stock the tank with some cichlids and was wondering how many and stocking ideas for our UFO 550 tank, I believe it is about 18 gallons.

Kind regards

Katie

18 gallons does rather limit your choice with cichlids but i can think of 1 that could work for you . Lamprologus similis a small shell dwelling cichlid from lake tanganyika .

there is a species profile on the forum which can be found here

actually looking through the species list these may be possible as well as they are also very small

To be honest that is a rather small tank for Cichlids, I don't know much about them but I'm sure they need a larger tank than that. There will be some you can stock however.

Thanks for your replies.

I do have my eye on a 190Litre corner unit but just dont have the funds at present.....trying to look for a second hand one.

I saw some Rams I liked the look of would my tank be too small for them?

Thanks again, I did ask the man at my LFS who knows which tank I have and he didnt seem very miffed about the size, which is why I thought I would get online and ask!

Thanks

KAtie

minimum for a pair of rams would probably be in the region of 20 gallons . so arguably you may be able to get away with it . but personally myself i dont think i would do it .

Hmmmmm!

Im glad I asked! im now thinking it is going to be best to get our hands on a larger tank first!

lol the need/desire for a bigger tank is an ongoing affliction in this hobby

ha ha Think i'm gonna have to stop having hobbies lol too much money!

 Surely you can ditch some other hobbies for this ;)

lol I have 3 kids too! and a husband...I have ssen the same tank as mine go for about £100, so that would be about £100 twowards a new tank well im hoping to get a second hand corner unit, the ones on ebay are a little far awa y :(

Be careful on your bacteria levels if you have let the tank run down (hopefully you still have some fish in to keep the filter bacteria stocked up) and dont add too many new fish too soon or you will overload the bio system.

Thanks, I have a plec and one silver shark which is going to its new home in my sister's tank ASAP as it is all alone :(
