Well I just posted yesterday on the prevention of ich and today I noticed many of the fish have a few small white spots on them. They are not covered yet, but they have a few.

I have CopperSafe by Mardel and have put in the required dosage per bottle (1 teaspoon for every 4 gallons.)

I have a 25 gallon tank with about 17 or so fish. Most seem to have minor infection right now.

I do not have a heater, but want to go out and get one. What is a good brand and size for a 25 gallon tank?

I read the link with Ich treatment and I removed the Carbon from my filter. I stuck some filter sponge in though, I hope that is ok.

I read on the forums that it is not recommended to do Salt and Medicine as it reduces the O2.

Any other recommendations? I don't want to have an upset 8 year old again :(

I did read to set the temp in the tank to about 86 degrees (1-2 degrees an hour change). Once I know the size and type to buy, I will go out and get it. Is salt still recommended by the users here, with CopperSafe?

For temp and salt need to no what fish you keep as some fish can't tolerate either.

3 Neons
3 Glass Fish (one has it more than all other fish)
1 Ruby Tail Shark
2 small Pleco
1 small black Ghost knife
4 small Platty (mickey mouse)
3 Glowlite Neons
1 Pictus Catfish
3 Zebra Danios

The shark really needs to be in a bigger ank, no salt and don't put the temp to high plecs don't tolerate it.

What type or size heater is good for a 25 gallon?

I have a five gallon upstairs, perhaps I'll isolate the Plecos if the others will tolerate.?

Can't help with heater try equipment forum, need to move the cafish as well.

acturally pleco can take temperature up to 88 I have one inside my 20g which have a little ich after my clown loaches were in I raise my temperature to 88 and did a week or so 25% waterchange every 2days it clear up in a week or so. Try to get a heater if possible as it will help u to speed thing up.

When you treat the water with CopperSafe or other ich products, the forums say to remove the carbon from the filter.

CopperSafe says 1 treatment good for one month. I assume you don't let your filter go for a whole month.

I have a Penguin BioWheel 150, so the blue sponge is attached to the carbon filter. Since I have the biowheel, can I remove the whole cartridge and at what point can I put it or a new one back in?

All you take out of the tank for treatment is the black carbon that removes meds from the water.

On my filter system (Penguin 150 BioWheel) it is all one piece, the cartridge that is. It's the sponge, sewn on the plastic piece with the carbon in it.

When you do take out the black carbon, how long until you put it in? CopperSafe says 1 treatment for the month. I can't imagine leaving it out all month long.

Someone at LFS mentioned 48 hours.

Sorry i don't no much about that med but if i takes a month, leave the black carbon out for a month, phone lfs or get in touch with the company.

Thanks Wilder for that article! Does this line refer to the carbon?

Another cool thing about CopperSafe is that the chelating agents in water conditioners that detoxify metals won't diminish CopperSafe's effectiveness since its copper is already chelated. A little complicated, so I hope I've made sense here
