Starting To Lose Faith With Maidenhead Aquatics...

If you introduce new fish into a set up no matter where the fish came from then you are playing a dangerous game.
The need for proper quarantining is said over and over again on this forum and gets totally ignored.
New fish dont just bring parasites into a system but also strains of bacteria that your old fish will have no immunity to.
My advice and i had hoped others would have mentioned it is to get a ten gallon and use it strictly as a quarantine tank for a month to make sure theres no parasites or bacteria present. A month may be a long time, but most diseases take a long time to show.

I don't believe you can blame Maidenhead aquatics for the disease outbreaks. They would probably recommend that you quarantine your newly purchased fish for a week or two anyway, before adding them to your tank.

I've always like Maidenhead until last week.

I should have gone with my usual rule of, if they have dead fish in tanks, ill fish, DONT by any. The sales guy convinced me that the ones that were ill had just arrived and due to the constant change in weather picked up fin rot or white spot (different tanks) but all the other tanks were fine. I haven't lost any fish for months and months and sometimes losing one just happens. But after purchasing 16 (10 female, 6 male) guppies from them with in 2 days I had lost 2 fish (one new, one old), 3 days another 13(mixed new & old), 4 days another 8 then then odd one of the few left over the next few days. I have no lost all my guppies and endlers that were in the tank (16 new plus 14 old) but the 3 black tetras and loaches that were in there are still swimming strongly.

What my main rift with them is, they wont take any responsibility for it at all. My water was fine etc before putting the new ones in but there was a very small amount of ammonia present on the 3rd day of the fish dying, but all else was still perfect. Maybe adding 16 fish was a bit silly, but the sales guy said it would be fine. On day 3 I noticed a couple of the new female guppies were covered in white spot -not just one or two spots, but lots, which I hadnt noticed on them before hand.

Most lfs have guarantees on their fish, some 3 days, some 7 but maidenhead on this case anyway have none, its all my fault, my doing and nothing to do with the fact they had tanks full of ill fish, and it was the new fish in my tank that were covered in white spot.

I wont shop there again, its as simple as that. If they aren't prepared to guarantee the health of their fish, look after their customers, I dont want to shop there.

It may be 5yrs old, but doesn't change the fact that I have lost all faith in Maidenhead.

Besides being 5 years old, please refer to this topic.
