I have all but given up on a planed tank. I just have normal gravel in my tank and I think does not do me any favours.

So, I am going to remove the stuff inthere that is half dying and take out the nutrafin CO2 units. I have a lot of light as my sig will tell, can someone recommend me some sturdy plants that will do OK/well in hard water, normal gravel, no CO2 (but I have quite a lot of fish) and with the light I have? I was thinking the substrate but concluded that it would be too much hassle!

Thanks.

try Ambulia, Hygrophilla sp, Elodia, Ludwigia, Swordplants, Vallis. They all grow in my tanks that are hard (300ppm) and alkaline (7.8+) and have similar lighting to you. I use undergravel filters with plain brown gravel and nothing else in the substrate. I do use Sera Florena, which is a liquid iron fertiliser and this is what gets them going pretty well.

Thanks for the recommendations, will give them a go!
