One think that really seems to matter is to try and plant several fast growing bunch plants to start as they will compete with the algea for nutrients and keep the algea down. In my 38 right now I have a huge no no going on where I mucked out the bunched (had turned quite leggy) plants and left slower growing rooted plants - I'm in a rush now to replace those stem plants... I have sorted the lighting question and now need to keep the algea in check.
The lighting problem was a very nice set up for marine but I had asked for planted - the lfs felt it would serve me fine. Seems that 6500k and not 10000 k is much closer to what I need...
