Starting My Tank Fishless Whilst Maturing

so if i planted my tank and turned on the pumps and dosed etc...and then added a filter and fish 5 weeks later All should be okay?

yep, personally i would wait until you have everything (as in the filter). You can then add fish and plants & start the "silent cycle".

okay...ill wait instead...things will most probably work out better that way

I went for a planted tank on day one, as I was told that putting plants in straight away stopped algae getting a head start.

As it was my 1st tank, I bought some cheap plants from the lfs, so I wouldnt lose anything nice ( I got some free snails too *sigh* )

I threw in some sand and gravel, filled the tank about a third, planted it up, then topped it up, added the filter (brand new), heater and lighting and just left it for 2 weeks.

Nothing scary happened, so invested in some nicer plants and bogwood =)
