Starting From The Beginning

I have a tank big enough for 2 goldfish to be happy in and a filter in pieces with no instructions on how to put it together.

I am completely clueless but really want to do the right thing so i have happy healthy fish.

Please tell me the best way to start. I need the dummies guide to fish

How big is 'big enough for two goldfish'? That could be anything from 3g (which is tens of times too small) to 75g (which is, at a stretch, big enough for two common goldfish)
