Starting a pond

over the past few months we have talked about starting a pond behind the house. I dont know much about it or what to put in it. I've also been thinking about what to do with the fish over the winter. If any1 can help I would appriciate it.

Could you give us an idea of the dimensions of the pond? As far as stocking you have several choices. If its a smallish pond theres quite a few varieties of goldfish to would be great. I prefer the big ponds myself and stock those with a mixed variety of koi. Whats the yearly climate where you live? Koi can be kept outside all year round provided they are introduced in early spring and the temps dont drop and stay below 20f. The goldfish are best removed during winter months and kept in a tank large enuff for them.
