Hi Every one.

well the time has come. my Columbian shark is 4 1/2 inches now and eaten 6 guppys whole :byebye: and last night i found a headless swordtail :X 2 minutes after seeing all the swordtail's alive and well. the finger is pointing in one direction i think. unless a 3 inch bala can dislocate his jaw!!!

i am buying a Juwel Rio 180 this weekend (i know bigger would be better but this is the biggest i can fit into my flat.) and would like to make it into a brackish tank to firstly put sharky in and eventually more of the same (maybe 2/3). i know the stages to setting up a FW tank but no idea about brackish

could someone please send me the basic steps needed to get it right first time. my Danio's seem to think it's a bit urgent :hyper: :X

Thanks

Hi jimbooo,

How big is a rio 180 ?? 180 ltr?

I don't mean to preach, but a bigger tank (like 75Gal +) would probably suffice for the time being, these are (or will be) very large fish.... as im sure you know

Anyhow, enough of that; CFC has brackish tanks he uses for large predatory catfish - im sure he will be able to give you any advice you need on that matter.

With regards to salt for the brackish tank, i know there is a certain type of salt and dosage to give. I can't remember exactly.... im sure somebody will clear that up for you....

Good luck :)

Regards to Sharky ;)

First read this artical which will tell the basics of setting up the tank and what equipment you will need http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=42435 . If you have any questions after that then feel free to ask.

Brackish is no more difficult than FW really and is a good next step in the hobby after you have become proficient at keeping normal community FW fish.

Actually all my large predatory cats are in my 200g FW tank, in my 80g brackish tank i have 3 moray eels, 3 scats, 3 mono's, 2 archer fish, a shark cat, a tiger fish (Datnoid) and a toad fish.

Rio 180 is 180 Litres (39.5 UK Gallon) any larger would go through my floorboards and it's a rented flat. i'm already pushing it so can't go any bigger i'm afraid.

read through CFC's article, very informative, thanks. i'll keep you posted on progress
