Hello,

I have a 90-gallon reservoir that I fill up with water before water changes and then I let it sit there until it reaches room temperature. There is no aeration/circulation in the reservoir. How long is it safe to leave the water sitting in the reservoir before I have to start worrying about bacteria growing in it? Is up to 12 hours safe?

I'd really appreciate some advice on this!

that would be fine, however i do not see any logic in doing this

I also fill up the reservoir before hurricanes and other natural disasters in case the water source gets contaminated, so I want to know how long that water stays usable. Does anyone know the maximum amount of time you can leave the water and still be safe for water changes?

Is this tap water? If so it should have chlorine in it, which we generally say takes about 24 hours to fully gas off.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, this is tap water. In that case, it should be fine for at least 24 hours right?

I'd say 24 hours max. After 24 hours the chlorine will have gassed off. That's not to say bacteria will start growing right away, but 24 hours is the maximum I'd trust it.
