One of my pearl gouramis had a couple of spots of ich recently so I used something called anti white spot plus advanced formula, which contains Formaldehyde and methanol. This has worked within a week, not killed the fry either so although i am pleased, all the tank algae and plants have been stained blue and the whole set up looks terrible.

I also read something in another ich post about loaches and meds sensitivity which i didn't know anything about either. They seem ok. It only said don't use with Mormyrids...what are they?

I was having a bit of a problem with algae as well and the posts relating to it all got too scientific with pressured tanks and CO and stuff. I have got the lights on a timer now, they came with the tank, so what am I doing wrong here? Everything was already long, furry and straggly and now it's blue!!!!

My bristlenoses are eating away at the algae still, I bought them to eat it up!!! will it harm them with the stain in? Will they go blue too? How do I clean up? Do I have to throw all the plants or wash them?

2 different issues here. It's normal for ich medicine to stain everything in sight. Either bin it and buy fresh, or live with it. In the case of plastic ornaments, put them in boiling water. Your algae problem is something else - have you checked for nitrates and phosphates?

Mormyrids are elephantnoses, sharks, rays etc.

When I used an ich medicine called NOX-ICH It stained the silicon blue and the was blue for alittle while. But fortunatly the staining is temporay so don't worry about it. And if you don't want guest seeing it you could put a towel over it (lol)

Thank you, I have given the whole thing a jolly good clean. The algae came off fairly easily although I fear it will grow back quickly unless I get a grip. I will check for the nits and phos's and post all the tank stats in the plant section to see what to do.
