Spray Painting A Tank?

Tomorrow I'm picking up a rather old fish tank, I'm not sure how many litres it holds but its quite big! I'm getting it for free so hey why not? I do not like the colour of it though, the hood is an old ugly yellow colour and the wood around the bottom and top is an ugly brown, can I spray paint the wooden bits black? Is there anything I can do about the hood or should I just buy a new one?

My mate ha the same issue but he sanded it down and painted it in white gloss. Looks pretty smart tbh

Thanks for the input! I'm sure there's an old tin of paint somewhere around here, means I don't have to spend any money lol! Hopefully being uglys the only thing wrong with it, if it doesn't leak or anything I have big plans for it if it does, well I might invest in a snake or something lol
