Spray Bar?

hi,i have just got a secondhand ext filter with no instructions? does the spray bar go above the water line or in the water?also what kind of filter media do i use?i have the sponges and thats all, what order is best?i have a fluval 303.many thanks to all who reply.

I have mine just below the surface, but you can have it above. Basically you want to to cause a little bit of rippling on the water surface to aid in oxegenating the water. I found that having mine above was too noisey :)

I'm not sure about the 303. I have a Fluval 204 which has 4 sponges, and also I've added ceramic biological media. You should get some biological media such as Fluval ceramic media, or "bio balls" (black plastic balls). These allow the good bacteria to build up on them and do your biological filtration. The sponges are there purely for "mechanical" filtration (ie, to take out any bits of waste or plant debris).
