I'm a novice at the fish keeping lark but this doesn't look right to me.

I've got 3 guppies all swimming round, looking ok and 2 black mollies. 1 of the mollies looks fine but the other one seems to have loads of tiny white spots all over it. I've noticed the same thing on one of the plants too.

The tank has been set up for about a month, the fish have been in there for a week. I used tetra aquasafe to dechlorinate the water and tetra balancing stuff to help it along a bit.

I don't know if it's an emergancy or not, but can anyone help, please.

cheers,
Flipper ;)

If the fish looks like he's been sprinkled in salt it's whitespot.

It does sound like whitespot. You can treat using Protozin.
I can't say I've ever come across a plant suffering from it mind you! Have you tried wiping the spots on the plant off at all? :/
Hugs,
P.

No, I haven't, I didn't want to risk doing anything til I had some advice. I'll get some Protozin, then. Is it dangerous or fatal??

it does a bit

Dangerous if not treated fast as it soon kills a fish, turn temp up to 30, increase aeration as the high temp and med will reduce 02 in the water, do you have any scaless fish in the tank.

This is what whitespot looks like.

guppies and mollies, that's all. Haven't got a clue whether they're scaleless or not............newbie, see

thanks for the info.

Ok, I haven't put salt in the water yet, cos I didn't have any in the house, and couldn't get to the shops in time. The molly that has the white spot is swimming very oddly and resting a lot, is it too late for it to be saved now??

Also, I assume all the other fish ( 1 other molly and 3 guppies) are at risk too.

I'll get some treatment for them tomorrow, but in the meantime, is there anything else I can do?

You should of started treatment by now, you are putting them at risk not getting the med, whitespot soon can kill.
The fish that resting alot could be a goner now, turn temp up and add the salt that should help while you get the med, you must hurry or you are going to lose them all.

it'll have to be tomorrow, I've only just come out of hospital, so it's not easy for me to get out at the moment.

Sorry didn't know, just thinking of the fish thats all.

I know, so am I - that's the trouble :( I had a pulminary embolism and was told to resta nd chill, we thought the fish would be really relaxing, but it's more stressful than being prime minister (not that I am)  :S

OK, heat is now 28-30 and I've got some white-spot treatment, which I put in the tank today, following the instructions on the med. So we'll now have to wait and see. The guy in my LFS said they may recover
