OK, I got my free Rena airpump for subscribing to TFF mag, and I wanna run sponge filters in my divided 60 litre.
Firstly, i guess I need to run them alongside the current filter for a month or so, whilst they become populated?
Secondly, what are the smallest but best I can get?
Thirdly, do I need a specific piece of kit to make the air go 3 ways? I have an airpump that has somehting to make 2 ways but that came with the pump, so i am unsure as to what to get! It needs to be able to turn the air down too, cos obviously I will want it turned down to almost nothing!

Since nobody's yet answered, I'll just mention that for my little air pumps, I get extra air hose lengths (even if not needed immediately, handy to have sometimes and about the only time I think to get any) and little plastic or metal multi-airhose connectors-splitter-thingies (I'm so technical) that your LFS should (might) carry in singles, doubles and triples, some types of which do have individual valve wheels for separate regulation, so that it just attaches to the air hose from your pump with your various sponge filters running off these.
Doesn't hurt to have a few single mating connectors or whatever you call them around, as well as some extra airhose, in case you ever need to extend the length of airhose by addition, as with a sudden need to move/set up a tank elsewhere or whatever.
Hopefully some expert will step in to advise on the filters - speaking as one who buys tends to buy cheap/second-hand, the best is something I generally ignore in the hope I won't notice it exists.

Hi
Yeh, as stated you can get three way air taps. I use them on my brine shrimp hatchery.

I cant remember the make of the sponge filters i got, but "Modaz" sells them. They are the best i've used as they are twistable and turnable to fit anywhere in the tank. Give Modaz a shout :good:

I would get the biggest sponge filter that dosent look odd in your tank.

I just bought two sponge filters... If they are working correctly should they be sucking a current to the sponge to catch particles in it? Mine aren't. it just blows bubbles out of the tube but the sponge doesn't attract food or anything as it sinks. Can anyone help?
