I setting up a new 20gl tank for raising some fry :D . I have every thing i need to cycle the tank except sponge for the sponge filters :( . The closes pet store that has it is far away, is there anything i could use besides the stuff they sell at the pet store? (could I use the real sponges that they sell at the hardwear stores?)

I would highly reccomend getting a Hang-On-Back filter and placing a panty hose on the intake tube so fry wont be sucked in....

Sponges from the store are often treated with anti-bacterials & ani-fungals. While this is good for household use, it is bad for fish.

A fabric store or Wal-Mart will sell cushion foam, you just have to make sure it is the real cheap stuff that isn't treated with fire retardants. Most any open cell foam that isn't treated with anything will work.
