Slightly confused how to set one of these up, can any1 give me a rought idea? Thanks

MOst sponge filters u just plug a airline in to, and thats it, off they go

What happens is has the air lifts and comes out of the top of the filter, it draws the muck in to the sponge filter..

All my tanks run off sponge filters now and they do a super job

Basically sponge filters work on the same basis as a undergrvel filter

so the muck out of the water sort of sticks to the side of the sponge? if you turned it off would it all just dropp off then?

Here's what iv seen on ebay:

So how would i make that work..

Thats pretty much the ones i use,l and no the muck dont just drop off lol, you will be suprised at how clean they stay

so what do i do to that peice to make it work? stick a tube into the middle attached to a pump or what :S haha i have no idea...

pop the clear tube off, run a bit of air line tubing threw the clear tube, then jam end of air line tube over small x or round shaped hole in top of filter, then slide the clear tube down into place on the sponge filter.

just need an air pump and some air line.

what size tanks are they ideally suited to filter?

Depends on what size tank you got...

My 2ft one have sponge filters that are about 5" wide and 5" High..

My smaller tanks have a spone filter that is about 4"x4"

These are the exact ones i use..

All you do is pull off that clear tube, feed a airline through it, and on the top of the filter there is a little hole that the line plugs on to, the air is pushed down in to the filter then the forced air come back up the out chamber and the uplift of this causes the filter to draw in the muck

how expensive are they?? how do they attach to the aquarium?

They simply sit the aquarium, i put mine in the back of either corner, they are £4 for the smaller ones and £5 for the larger ones.

are they as good as internal filters? i havea standard jewel filter on my rekord 120 (what came with the tank). if i got one i would have it as well to increase filtering. i soo want one for that money. what size would you recommend?

For the extra pound its worth getting the bigger one, ive got a 3ft tank in my garage and its got 2ft of sand and 1ft of undergravel filter seperated off from the sand, on the sand side i also run one of these sponge filters.

it would work on gravel wodnt it? where can you get them from?? so all i need is that, plus airline and a pump? how powerful does the pump have to be?
