Until now the convicts aggression even during spawning has been there but not intense.

Well things have changed and the female convicts are looking a little beaten.

Current Tank (50G US)
--------------------------------
4 x Convicts (1 Male, 3 Females)
6 x Tiger Barbs
1 x Bushy Pleco

This is my proposed splitting.

50G US Tank
--------------------------------
1 x Convict (Male)
6 x Tiger Barbs
1 x Bushy Pleco

22G US Tank
--------------------------------
3 x Convict (Female)

Now my question is can either of these tanks support any other tank mates?

Challenging?

Ok well I heard a Gold Serverum would be an ok tank mate or a fire mouth for the larger 50 G?

and maybe some one sex of Rams or Kribs with the other?

I am a fan of cichlids I am aware finding tank mates will be challenging.

Firemouth should be ok with the male convict in the 50g, without the females its should be relatively peaceful, ensure there are no line of sight issues, should be ok. A sev should also be ok, so long as the tank is wide enough once full grown to turn around, allow for swimming space.

If you want to try rams or kribs in the 30g with the female convicts, go kribs (Im not a krib person so unsure of how wel they would get on) but a ram wouldnt stand a chance against a stroppy convict IMO.

Severums get too big for either tank, but i agree a Firemouth would be ok in the 50G,

I also wouldn't put any more territorial fish in the 22G I would try some dithers such as 5 zebra danios,
