ok well my betta has finished his whitespot treatment and have now added him to the split tank.
both male either side are constantly flaring at each other.
is this normal for a split tank to start with and will they eventually get used to each other

Yes, this is the natural response of a betta to being in the vicinity of another betta. Usually when they have the same neighbour for a while and each learns that the other never invades his territory, they will settle down. But it's a good idea to give them a few hours break every day from the constant flaring - the front cover off a plastic display folder works very well, slide it down one side of the divider to block their view. There is a small chance you'll have to do this (called carding) permanently.

i think they have settled down a bit now my blue 1 looks like he tryin to build a nest all be it a very small 1

Hey looks awesome!

Is your water up higher than the divvider by chance? Or is it just the lighting....i have two of those tanks (if the are the aqua start ones) and my VT jumped into the other side so i have had to lay a peice of plastic over the top so they dont jump. What sort of sand did you use?? I want to put sand in my 4ft but it already has gravel in it. Youre not using an under gravel filter?

it is the aqua start 1 lol and the water is just lower but i had a piece of that stuff left so i have cut it to shape so they cant jump out.
the sand is just play sand thats been washed and there will be as of today a new interpet mini filter goin in to replace the old 1 that is in there at mo.

i do like the aquastart 1s for some reason ive got a 500 aswel that im cycling for a comunity tank while i get my 3ft tank set up
