Split Tail And Fin Rot?! =/

Hi Everyone,
So I'm worried. I'm pretty sure both of my guppies has fin rot, and one definitely has fin rot and split tail. :unsure:

Is there anything I can do to help them other then water changes? Any cheap medication? Because my mom doesn't think much about the matter but I don't want both of our male guppies to have weird tails the rest of their life...or even die. I also have a small baby guppy in a divider from the other fish in the main tank. I will try to get pictures of them soon. =/

Add some aquarium salt until you manage to get some pictures up, its very cheap. better to properly diagnose than to use the wrong treatment.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that! I put some in and swished it around. Now I'm crossing my fingers it will work!

yea i agree, put some quarium salt in. i would consider doing a 30-50% water change too and maybe add fin rot treatment in. but dont add the salt and the treatment in until you have done the water change. also if you are going to treat with the fin rot, make sure you take the carbon out of your filter because otherwise the treatment won't work. but yea make sure you know what the problem is first. aquarium salt is the best option for now.

Okay, I hope I can convince my mom to do a water change tomorrow. Here is a picture of him, with the split tail clearly showing.

And I will make sure to put the aquarium salt after water changes also. =/

hard to tell from that but it looks like its just a knick, maybe hes caught it on something or been nipped. I dont know if you get melafix in the US but that should do it, its just tea tree oil.

Okay thanks, I'll research it. He also has a bit of his tail that looks like a bite but it has a red sorta puffy-looking edge.

Melafix is at Petsmarts near us, but my mom thinks that Betta Remedy (from when we had bettas) might help. Could you guys help me with this? Its called BettaFix Remedy by SpendidBetta. Its outdated also, so I don't really think it will be enough. I really want to help our poor guppies. =/

yea that should be alright, but my only concern is that it's out of date. i would ask the LFS if that is ok or not before using it. but makesure they are not just trying to get you to buy some new product. get them to example why it's not ok if they say it's not and what would it do if you did use it.

Okay, I bought some melafix like you said, hopefully that will help. We are thinking about buying another female *snakeskin tail* guppy but would that be overstocking and boost the tail rot?
