Well, its been a looooong time I've been on the forums but you'll be pleased to know that I'm finally back to plague you people with questions once again :D

So I've been looking at Splashing Tetra as an idea for the stock in my tank for quite a while, but a trawl of Google brought up surprisingly little about the number that are possible in a tank and how many should be kept together to be happy. These aren't exactly your usual common'o'garden little tetra though so I was a little confused as to what to do. After a short talk to the owner of the little shop that sells them he said that they live in pairs but also as a shoal... hmmm

Basically here are my tank specs:
180l Juwel rio
Tetratec ex1200 filter
Heavily planted, mature tank thats been going for around a year

Stock:
6 Peppered Corys
18 Ember Tetra
5 Amano shrimp

As you can see, its at a rather low stock at the moment. If you guys could try and give me a rough estimate of how many Tetra I could comfortably have and what the minimum number would be, that'd be great!

They look like nice fish, they need soft water according to what I just read. Think I will stick with fish that don't jump out of the water!

They do have some funny ways of breeding don't they! After having looked around more I've seen most places saying around 8 fish should be kept as a minimum, I guess I'll go for a bit more than that, perhaps 12-16 in all? If anyone thinks thats too many, please tell me :) Otherwise I'll go and collect them tomorrow with a bit of luck!

Should be just fine. Get more females than males to limit aggressive tendencies between them, or get all males if you don't plan to breed them.
