Spitting Filter!

hi there,

i have just carried out a water change on my tank. since adding the new water, my Fluval U3 filter has started spitting out a strange dust-like substance, the fish seem fine and this 'dust' appears to be settling on the surface of the water. does anyone know what this is and if it is dangerous to my fish??

Probably air in the line. Did you add new carbon? If you did not rinse it well enough it will also cause the dusty look. You did use old tank water to clean it, right?

thanks for the reply. yeah i used old tank water to clean it. it seems ok now. think it was just having a splutter!!

my external seems to splut out some crap even when ive completely cleaned the media and taken out the water in the canister, and primed all of the air out, so yeh prob just some air dislodging some stuff from your filter nowt to worry about

Could be biofilm from the inside of the filter hoses. Basically harmless.
