Spindly Elodea

My elodea (I believe this plant is also known as anacharis) is extremely spindly. When it first arrived, it was lush and thick and dark green. Now it's a kind of pale green with short, sparse leaves. What might this indicate? Despite it's straggly appearance, it still grows like a weed.

it means its growing very fast...too much light or nutriends...minegrows spindy too with med/high lighting. not sure how to rectify it/.im sure someone will come along and give better info.
