Just a point from experience about rocks in the oven. If the rock has even the tiniest fossilised air bubble in it, it may explode when heated in an oven.

You do not want rock shrapnel flying around your kitchen.

Also never ever EVER use a microwave oven for heating rocks.

This would be especially likely to happen to volcanic rock that has been washed and/or soaked before putting in the oven. :eek: I've seen this happen when lava rock was used to circle a campfire, and this was in the Arizona desert where it hadn't rained for quite some time.
