Looks like a brown widow, however if it has only
six eyes the it is a brown recluse, both are native to california.

Does it Look Like This

Tons of info and Amazing Pics here Arachnology

I agree that it may be a Brown Recluse, If it turns out to be, then be very very careful around it.

Its Bite's Venom can last over 2 Years

Im so glad i live in UK... We have tiny spiders with no venom over here (i hope :S ) That thing looks scary...

like snakes but not spiders?
Yup! I love snakes, but I just can't get over my fear of spiders...I think it has something to do with eight legs, hair, creepy little bodies...*shudders* :-( :-( But I am terribly interested in spiders, and I feel compelled to watch any TV show on them...just don't get any live spiders near me or your in for a real funny show.

I'm kinda thinking it's not a brown recluse. This a picture of one that I found on The Ohio State University Website:

BrownRecluse.jpg

And thier description is this: "In the mature brown recluse spider as well as some other species of recluse spiders, the dark violin marking is well defined, with the neck of the violin pointing toward the bulbous abdomen. The abdomen is uniformly colored, although the coloration can range from light tan to dark brown, and is covered with numerous fine hairs that provide a velvety appearance. The long, thin, brown legs also are covered with fine hairs, but not spines. Adult brown recluse spiders have a leg span about the size of a quarter. Their body is about 3/8 inches long and about 3/16 inches wide. Males are slightly smaller in body length than females, but males have proportionally longer legs. Both sexes are venomous. The immature stages closely resemble the adults except for size and a slightly lighter color. Whereas most spiders have eight eyes, recluse spiders have six eyes that are arranged in pairs in a semicircle on the forepart of the cephalothorax (see close-up view). A 10X hand lens or microscope is needed to see this diagnostic feature. In order to determine the exact species of Loxosceles, the spider's genitalia need to be examined under a high-power microscope. This requires the skills of a spider expert."

I believe Auratus said it was bigger than that, and also if you look at the picture of her's it seems to have spinkes or spiny hairs, whereas the Recluse is supposed to look smooth.

Whoohoo, look at me, Mrs. Spider Lady! :hyper:

my first reaction would have been to scream like a girl too (then again, i am a girl so that would be perfectly acceptable). my next reaction to a spider like that, depending on size, may have been to either flick it away or squash it, depending on how much it freaked me out and surprised me (get the feeling i'm NOT a fan of spiders??)

i did a little searching, despite my aversion to spiders or anything with more than 4 appendages............. i now feel very creepy-crawly, and found nothing that looks quite like that little guy. i doubt its a brown recluse or a hobo spider, too furry, wrong body shape and color. its probably a harmless little spider, but scream worthy non-the-less if you werent expecting it

I have three Tarantulas including a Goliath Bird Eater, but that picture made me shudder and exclaim all kinds of noises that I can't get across with text :D
Grrrryaaahhh......hmm nearly :D

Cool pics ;)

Sorry to scare anyone.

I also Dislike Spiders But Admire there Dexterity and Beauty.

I can Look @ a Spider and Go up to It.

I Like Flicking them out of there web and watch them climb back up.

But If a House spider is in the Same room as me, It has to be killed and I will not enter the room untill I see its Squashed Remains.
Close encounter with a Huge Swollen Female @ 6am 5cm from my Eyes. And I am Scared of them for life.

But Other Spiders I like.
