Special Betta Supplies

I was at my LFS today getting food for my guppies when i saw the 'betta' water conditioner. Along with a lot of betta medicine. Do bettas really need special supplies or is this just a way to make money?

From what I've heard the 'betta conditioner/medicine' is the equivalent of a half dose of the normal fish medicine give or take.

More experienced users may correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard from some other betta keepers at my local stores.
