Hello all, just a bit of background before I try and explain the behavior im seeing. So about 2 weeks ago I moved a 5-6 inch Rotkeil Severum out of my main tank along side a 4.5 inch Firemouth, and placed them in my empty(but very mature) 29 gallon(for the time being). The reason being that the two fish were being battered by my BP pair as it seems they are trying to spawn yet again, and were really in some ruff shape. Both fish were looking pretty skinny and had lost alot of color and finnage. Ok so that was just about 2 weeks ago and both fish seem to be thriving in this 29 gallon. Their colors get better every day and i have noticed a bit of fin regrowth. So here is what i have noticed. I was watching my female Rotkeil this afternoon and noticed she was picking up a peice of gravel and spitting it out a couple inches in front of her. When I got up to get a closer look I saw she had already made herself quite a ditch. She seems to be spending alot of time in it now and im wondering if this is typical spawning behavior for severums, as it is exactly what my convicts did years ago, or could she just of been bored? She also seems to like her reflection and does a bit of showing off to it. Any how I just curious
Here are some pics
its pretty hard to see the ditch from these pics but its right where she below her.
this is her showing off to her reflection
Thanks for any replys
Just curious if this means she is wanting a mate,in which case I need a bigger tank
