I put together my first fresh water tank just over a year ago.  I've got a 30 gallon tank with two angel fish, two glass catfish, two algae eaters and a handful of tetras (neon, phantom) and three orange fish I can't remember what they are called.  Long story short, I never imagined that I would end up with fish fry.

About 6 weeks ago I noticed my angels were being very territorial over the treasure chest and being aggressive towards one another and the other fish.  I went and bought some more live plants (had the wrong bulb and many that I had in the tank had died) to give my smaller fish place to hide from the angels.

Shortly thereafter I discover on one of the plants, a TON of eggs.  I was NOT prepared for this so I was trying to separate the parents from the eggs before I went to work one day to keep them from eating them.  Long story short, they ate the fry.  They were hatched and  close to free swimming from what I could tell.

Flash forward to a few days ago I noticed a new batch on another section of one of the plants.  I have now set up a second tank and moved the plant with the fry over to the new tank.  I didn't get them all because there were a few on another plant that I left in my main tank.  I thought that they had been eaten but discovered yesterday that they had all migrated over to the bag that I had put over the intake.  They are still over there and are seeming to develop nicely.  In the new tank the fry are also doing really well.  They are still clumped together but haven't started free swimming yet.

My question, when do I start feeding them the baby brine shrimp?  Do I wait until they are free swimming?  I really want to have a successful breed and at least get a few fish out of this.  Any tips or hints?  I put a piece of sponge over the intake on the new tank so when they start swimming they don't get sucked up.  I have frozen food to feed them once it's time. I just don't know when I should.

Thanks for reading this.

You can start to feed as soon as the egg sack is gone. Also you can use a sponge filter for fry. They will actually graze on the sponges, once the sponges are mature

Also try giving the pair their own tank. They may be eating the fry because of the other fish in the tank. A 20 or 29 H will be fine for a pair.
