Getting old, but nowhere near knackered, i just lo
ok, firstly lets get one thing clear, i dont talk BULL
i aint got pics as didnt have the camera with me on either day as didnt think anything would come of it.
I went to my breeding rooms across town to check on my fish the other day, ive got a tank with temp divider in it with the male and female on either side conditioning them, only been conditioning for 1 day and she had mega breeding stripes and he had built an average nest connected to some floating riccia that i had added, well quite small really as hes not to good at it, anyway she wanted him bad and hes was trying to tempt her over to the nest but she was blocked by the divider so i let her through to see what happened, he got her under the small nest and wrapped her instantly , hes a real softy and very gentle with the females i spawn him with.
she lay paralised and no eggs dropped but as she came out of it she went crazy and destroyed the nest, this has happened before so i wasnt to worried as he always gets right back to building it again, this time he didnt, he must have been so gagging for it that he totally forgot that he will need a nest and he continued to wrap her, eggs fell like crazy, was really surprised with how many were coming as she wasnt swollen at all, like my other females.
He grabbed them and ate quite a few and so did she, since there was no nest and they had already started i left them to it and ventured to my other tanks to do some cleaning. i went back 30 mins later at they were still at it, so left them again, went and got some lunch for 1 hour and came back to him chasing her around the tank so obviously they had finished so i removed her.
Then i noticed that he was hovering at one side of the tank, he had gathered the eggs and pushed them into the riccia, the riccia was compact with eggs, i didnt think they would come to anything so went home, the next day the eggs were still there but not as many, he must have eaten them, today i went in again and he was tendering to about 100+ fry that 50% were stuck to the glass and the rest were free swimming, about 30 mins later i noticed that he was eating them slowly so i removed him, a few hours later most of them were free swimming but dont really know how many there are but theres loads.
he had managed to raise a massive batch of eggs (his largest so far) without the aid of a nest and just the clump of riccia. will be using him for most of my drops as hes a great colouration of violet blue and red and slight orange on his head, i thought he was a delta or SD but he had chewed fins when i got him and hes turned into a VT but an absolute stunner, crossed him with one of my blue/black HM females so the fry should be very nice to see.
