I have always wanted sparkling gouramis and a couple months ago I picked up five of them. They are still quite shy but getting more and more used to me and noises everyday.

I had a bit of a hard time getting good pictures of them. No matter how many times I cleaned the glass it seems in every picture there is still a water spot of smear somewhere! :S

All the pictures of the sparklers were taken with a flash but the whole tank shot was taken without flash. So onto the pictures:

They are very beautiful ! and very sparkly indeed

Why is your water leve so low though ?

Thanks bloozoo :D

The water level is low 1) because I kinda like the way it looks because I have floating plants on the surface and it's nice to be able to see them. 2) because if I have to mess about in the tank I can take the hood off and not feel as worried they will be able to jump out (I've lost a few fish this way :X ) and 3) because the plants arn't as tall so when I keep the water level this low there is a lot more coverage on the surface which brings out the sparklers more.

Lovely Sparklers Elisabeth! I have some of them too, they're great fish. And I'm sure they love that tank!

Very beautiful dense planted tank :D

You should move the thermometer down a bit until the whole thing is submerged. Or else you might get a temperature reading of both the air and water temperature, even though you only want the tank's temp.

BTW..what size tank is that? It looks huge to me, but I have no skills in judgement. HAHA

That tank looks really good. I love the way you've 'decorated' the substrate with some dead leaves - feels like looking into a natural stream. The sparkling gouramis would definitely thrive in there.

Anyway, what are the other companion fish you have there in the last photo?

Oh, I love the sparklers!!! I have one (I had 5....) anyways...they're such funny fish, aren't they? So cute!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments :D

The tank is 14.5 gallons so it isn't too huge but plenty big enough for the sparklers. The other fish living with them are a small type of rasbora.
