Hi,
My beloved Sparkler is not doing well. It might be down to age as he is over 2 years. He used to enjoy croaking at the other fish but now he is in a bad way as when he tries to swim to the surface he just sinks down and gets stuck on the bottom. Could it be a swim bladder problem?
Thanks

I have never kept sparkling gourami, but I have had two labyrinth fish who had similar issues when they got older. Since they take in air from the surface. They do use a fair amount of energy to make the swim to get it, especially if there is a power filter slowing them down (even harder at an older age). I ended up adding some structure/plants near the surface for my betta and honey gourami to rest on, so the journey to get air was easier.

It could just be a swim bladder issue as well. I'm not the best person to make out if it is, but I would suggest posting some pics/video if possible, so members like @Colin_T could give you an answer/advice.

Ok, thanks for your help. I'll try and get a video to post.

I think he's about to die. He's been in the same position for about 20 mins.. photo attached. Will send to Colin_T. Thanks
