My silly self purchased a handful of sparkling gouramis about 3 weeks ago and set them up in a 10 gallon tank. I've owned them before, but some reason out of the hundreds of species I have bred over the years I've never tried to breed these guys so I wanna give them a shot and see how they do for me. Only thing is I cant tell who's what in order to pick out a pair among these inch long little brats. LOL Anyone have any pointers on this?

This is honestly the only thing I could find that you can really tell the difference:

The male has a longer and more ornate dorsal fin. Males have a much pointier anal fin, whereas the female's is more rounded.

For breeding:

The male builds a very small bubble-nest in floating vegetation, usually only a few bubbles and thus it goes un-noticed. The male tends the eggs; fry can take only the smallest infusoria, and some will survive in a well-established aquarium where such live food will be available among the floating plants.

They are hard to sex when young, it becomes easier when they are bigger.

the way to go about sexing them is to shine a bright torch through their bodies and locate the ovaries in the female

Some reason it didnt occur to me to compare their anal fins.. Doi. I mean I am a couple years rusty with breeding fish, but DUH GEORGE WAKE UP! LOL I imagine their easier to breed and raise than bettas and I've bred several species of those in the past, just never tried gouramis before.
