Ooooh! Have you got any pics?
I'll try , they're small and in a 15 gal quarantine tank now so it's tough to get a good pic .

My son got some ctenopoma acutirostre [ spotted climbing perch ] to keep with his false leaf fish , and as a bonus a tiny scarlet badis was also in the bag , about 1/2 " long and very colorful , I think it's a male

He'll have to find a safe place for it or I will

Right now it's in with my sparklers and a pair of nancara anamolas I also picked up

ok , will try

sylvia , know anything about liquorice gouramis ?

Only a little, I've never kept them before cause I can't find any around here. They look very pretty though.

What I do know is that they grow to about an inch and a half in length and require a pH level around 6.0 - 6.5 . They do not breathe air from the surface like other gouramies. There are many different species though, some actualy require a pH as low as 4.5. The most common species, Parosphromenus deissneri, is the normal 'Licorice gourami'. They are very peaceful but shy and like to hide in caves and under leaves. From what I've heard, they aren't much of a top-dweller like other gouramies. They need to be kept with very, very epaceful fish and get stressed out easily. I think a species tank is usualy considered most suitable. They will usualy take flake though I've also seen it suggested that the other species such as the 'swamp' licorice gourami will only eat live foods. The males don't appear to show much aggression which is just as well as sexing them seems difficult...

Apparently, breeding them requires very soft water and the males show a slightly brighter coloration though I can't realy see this difference myself. A good temperature to breed them at is around 80 deg. F. They spawn in caves and the males guard the fry. The female lays eggs in a cave roof and then the male blows a bubblenest around them. The male guards the fry for around 3 days and then everything works like with usual gouramies.

This is only what I remember from a friend who used to have them... I don't know if everything is correct but I'm sure a few google searches would clear it all up. :p

The badis is very pretty, and mine too I'll try to get pics, but it's difficult with that tank

If you do at any point, I would love to see :D

Well 2 didn't make it , but the other 2 love my[ their ] plants .

Oh I'm so sorry about the two - but at least the others are happy :)

Sparkling gouramis are one of my favorite gouramis! I have four of them and what amazed me the most when I got them was the incredible blue in their eyes when the light hits them at the right angle, and the scales on their sides too. Such beautiful tiny fish. :) Have yours made any noises yet? ;)

I see what you mean about the blue in the eyes . They're beatiful little fish , haven't heard a peep yet .

I think I'm going to go back and get 2 or 3 more .
