Is it possible to keep sparkling or croaking gouramis with tetras? Or would they pick on them?

what kind of tetra? It shouldn't be a problem realy. Sparklers and croakers both tend to ignore non-gourami species of fish.

I kept croaking gourami with x-ray tetras and there was no issues at all. Actually I have my deformed g.gourami in with them (The tetras not the croakers) now and they have nothing to do with each other, except to keep out of her way! As she spends most of her time resting on the bottom she has her area that all the fish leave to her. Even if she's in need of a little extra care on my part and goes into a breeders net for a few days they leave well alone. The only fish she dislikes are danios and she's succeeded in killing all but one of them now. But three spots are notorious for being......naughty. Even in her condition it would seem.
Hugs,
P.

Thanks for that. I was thinking about putting some with some blue tetras, but I am now thinking maybe I will go with rams instead of the gouramis. I am totally undecided, though. I just wish I could keep everything. The sparklers especially are so cute, but I think the ones my LFS sometimes gets are croaking. I don't know how to tell the difference. They are so teeny and colorless, and the tank is never labled, they just throw them in with something else and you have to look closely to even notice they are there.
