I have just shat a tank down and moved the occupants into one tank, which is 40 something gallons. That tank is serviced by a Fluval 304 and I now have a spare Fluval 204 sitting around.

I was wondering if it is wise to utilise the 204 with the large tank? I want to filter Peat and would mean having to make room in the 304. Maybe I could use the 204 to do that and also increase the bio filtration?? I am thinking of placing the inlet very high up so that it stays clean with out sucking up the dirt at the bottom of the tank and then getting a T piece (if it exists) to join both both filters to one outlet.

An idea or not do you think guys?

Thanks.

Increased bio-filtration is never a bad thing... if you're worried about current - turn down the flow rate on the filters. Is there a reason you are using peat? I do in one of my tanks too... I suppose you can just let the filter run as-is - the 304 liklely will be picking up most of the debris in a tank that size - and anything else the 204's sponges will pick.

Want to lower the PH but filtering peat, currently, the water is neutral to alkaline. I hope to put the peat in the lowest tray of the 204 and fill the other 2 with bio-media.
Want it to do less work, that is why I want to place the inlet very high up so that it draws in as little solid waste as possible.

The 304 is currently set up with mechanical filter media in the bottom tray, filter floss in the middle and bio media in the top tray.

Thanks!
