I have an extra 30 gallon tank lying around and I want to start it up again. What should I put in it? I want something simple, easy to maintain. I was thinking a couple of angelfish...or maybe a school of glassfish. Any suggestions?

go for community or african cihcild tank. Either is great as long u dont buy fish that dont get alone with each other like angle with tiger bar etc. I would go for tetra community tank alone with some cory cat. I love tetra. (cardinal/neon/black neon/diamond head neon) all of this r very very beautiful.

I'm thinking of an african cichlid tank. Don't want plants though, so can I use rocks to make a great display? I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a sand substrate, with rocks to form caves. Any suggestions as to decorations and all? I've also heard that a little aquarium salt helps, is this true? Also, is it easy to find african cichlids in pet stores, and what are the average pricing of these fish?

Isaac

Yea, exactly what I imagined in my mind. Where does he find those kinds of rocks, I am not willing to pay 100 dollars for rocks to put into a tank xP?

Isaac

im not sure where those rocks came from but where i live you can get large rocks(slate etc)for cheap at B&Q.
i think americans call it home depo(correct me if im wrong though)

Yea..you're right, it's called Home Depot here. But I was wondering where if I'd be able to find some at lakes or ponds...or even in my own backyard. But what about the pricing on the fish?

Isaac

those rocks are slate
they're usually the cheapest at pet stores. however, you can go to hardware stores or wal-mart usually has some too for much cheaper

just boil them for a few minutes and they'll be fine

african cichlids are usually expensive here in montreal, around 5 to 10$ each but are usually easy to find

What would be a good species to look for? I want more colorful fish...as I tend to dislike plain, or grayish fish...

Isaac

Well, I decided on Neolamprologus leleupi (Lemon Cichlid). They are very beautiful, and a pair would fit nicely into the 30 gallon. Does anyone know where I can find some in New York? I'd rather pick them up, than have the fish shipped. Anyone have extra that I can buy from them?
