South Yorks Club

I have been away for over 20 years and now i have come back i find that there are no clubs in the region well none that i can find . So i am thinking of starting a club. It was going to be for Sheffield but it could poss be for the south yorkshire region . It will be an online club to start with just to see how many peeps are interested . If you are interested please Email or pm me so i can put your name down . There is going to be a quiz for the name just for fun i was thinking of something like
The New South Yorkshire Aquarists Society but prob a we bit to long .My old club was Sheaf Valley AS And i also thought about resurrecting the name . Tell me your ideas and thoughts about the new club if there are enough interested then it is a big poss that it will be set up

I belonged to Bradford and District AS many years ago and I too am saddened to see the demise of so many Aquarist Societies within the North of England (and all over for that matter) These were excellent learning grounds for proper fishkeepers. I have many a tale to tell about my time within the Y.A.A.S.
Fair play to you for trying to resurrect this. It's an excellent idea, The internet is great for information but it takes away the human element of walking and talking personally with fellow aquarists.
I think you should go ahead with the original name and get a small nucelus of members together and form a committee, advertise in local newspapers and local radio stations. I don't expect you to get a lot of members but what you will get will be a loyal band. Get affiliation to a regional organisation. (you may have to go to Red Rose country for this now) Inter club visits and table shows can be orgainsed but due to the decline you may have to travel a little further, but well worth the effort. Get in contact with the clubs around the whole Yorkshire and Humberside and get some help from them.
Go for it and the very best of luck mate with the new venture, Keep us posted and if there's anything I can do just PM me.

Many thanx for those words of encouragment . After the hols i am going to make a few posters to put in lfs i allready have a tfs interested so i suppose that is a start . I will keep you informed how it goes

it is not restricted to just sheffield

I think my old club is still surviving under the name Bradford A.S. I have made enquiries and am waiting a positive response from Sue Kenworthy at Otley A.S. She has been around for eons and knew all the Yorkshire stalworts back then.

hi guys. i live in the bradford area and would be interested in some form of club. all the best widge with setting up the club and my girlfriend lives in rotherham and i spend alot of time in south yorkshire so i may pop in one day ;

Don't mention it, I was only too pleased to help, I might pop in in the Summer you never know (when you get your meeting nights and venue sorted).
