We are lucky enought to live in a area with very soft water around the 1-2dkH, and a pH of around 6.5.

The tank is around 62x52x39cm, gives us a tank volume of 113 ltr/25imp.gal./30us gal.

Any idea's for stocking? The tank will be double filtered so we can overstock should we want to.

Tank is fully cycled(fishless) from seeded filter media.

We like angels, apisto's, corys, rams etc. how many and what can we stock?

Stocking advive please.

Thanks
J

You could do a pair of Rams/Apistos, and maybe some Angels, along with a shoal of bigger sized Tetras. Just remeber though, when people stock South American tanks, the majority think of South American Cichlids. You can't get away with overstocking Cichlids. They can be very agressive/territorial...

If you are looking for something other than the regular rams, apistos, angels, then I would go for a pair of Geophagus steindachneri. But, I'm a lover of Geophgus, so they would always be my first choice.

Thanks for the replies, how many angels is it best to have?

I would say 4 or 5. Try to get a pair. If it forms, take the rest back. You don't have to raise the eggs, getting rid of the eggs shouldn't be frowned upon, infact nature will do more of that then you could do raising angels your whole life. If you don't want to try with 4 or 5, buy 2 or 3, they may not pair, but if they don't you may get some aggression in the group.

i follow the rule of even numbers regarding angels. 4 or 6. though 6 may overstock your tank abit. so 4.

I would go with a couple of largish shoals of tetras, a decent sized shoal of corys and then a focal fish such as rams or apistos. If the tank is large enough, maybe I would go with angels but I haven't seen any decent 'wild' looking angels for ages, it's always the coloured varieties that seem to be stocked these days, which I don't like. If you want something for the upper levels of the tank, have a look at pencilfish or hatchetfish. Coral Red Pencilfish are stunning but expensive (Nannostomus marginatus maortenthaleri). Some of the fish mentioned might be a little sensitive to a newly cycled tank but I'm sure if you keep an eye on the water stats, you should be fine.
