Hello everyone,

I have 3 South American Puffers all of which got Ich. I just noticed it today and my one Puffer is worse off than the others. I am wondering if is safe to do a salt water dip/bath for my Puffers. So far I have done a water change and added more aquarium salt and also I am increasing the temperature so that it will get to 30 Celsius/86 Fahrenheit. I am kind of in a panic. I have not dealt with this before and I know that Ich is worse to South American Puffers because they have no scales. But my main question is can a do a salt water bath?

Thanks, Chelsea

Tank size:15 us gallon
pH: 8.0
ammonia:0.6 (Nutrifin Test Kit)
nitrite:0.1 (Nutrifin Test Kit)
nitrate:5 (Nutrifin Test Kit)

tank temp: 28 Celsius

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): Colors look alright. Just the white spotting all over the body. Spots look a little like salt. 2 of my puffers are swimming around, and 1 is laying on the substrate, breathing rapidly, and not moving his fins.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: Usually do 1-2 water changes weekly. about a 1/3 water change. Although seeing my puffers had Ich I just did a 50% water change.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Haven't added any chemicals. But for water changes I used nutrifin aqua plus (chlorine/chlormaine killer) and nutrifin cylce.

Tank inhabitants: 3 south american puffers, 3 tiger barbs, 2 cory, 1 upside down catfish, 1 freshwater crab.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): Well we have put the tiger barbs in a bigger tank so help cycle the water but they were looking sick so we put them back in the other tank.

Exposure to chemicals:
