I cycled my 5.5 gallon tank for about two wekks with mature filter media and added about a dozen plants, floating and sinking, and 3 Golden Wonder Killifish from my previous 15 gallon, 1 male and 2 females. I've had the killis for over a year and they have the most amazing personalities ever and have spawned a ton of times.

So does this sound like a good tank?

golden wonders in a 5.5g? No, that doesn't sound like a good idea. They need much more room than that, more than a 15g offers as well.

Honestly a 5 gallon is too small for these fish as they get to 4.5 inches on average and most 5 gallons are foot long so I would say that it is kind of mean to keep 3 5 inch fish in a 12 inch tank :good: and zoddy zod, I think that a 15 gallon could support a small group of kills and for them to still be happy, but only if this tank is a 15 long

golden wonders get to a good 3-4" in length and predominantly sit at the water surface (therefore area of the tank is much more improtant than depth). A tank of 15" long for them is not enough IMO.

the other one was a 15 gallon tall(round)
so something tells me they are probably much happier in the 5.5 gallon

sorry but a 5.5g is simply too small - that size tank is only ever going to be suitable for a betta.

I would give a betta about 5 gallons max
all the bettas i get are scared of big tanks
PLus in a 5.5 gallon you could keep danios, shrimp, killifish, 2-4 month old cichlids of all species, several species of small catfish, etc.
The possibilities are alot, not as much as a bigger tank but still alot

i have bettas in 16 gallon tanks and they dont get freaked out at all. i have one in a 5 gal. and he is nowhere nere as active as the ones in the big tanks, in my iwn experience bettas love big tanks, so they can roam there territory, some people on here keep theirs, in 140 gallon tanks, and 100 gallon tanks, and the bettas are perfectly fine. I hate the stupid myth that they hate big spaces

Where do you get all these possibilities? Because I can only think of one type of danio that MAY workout it'd be much better in a 10 gallon, shrimp would work, I guess if it was a fry tank but not for longer than like 2-3 months or that would be kind of mean to the fish, and most catfish need a bigger tank.

you cant even keep pygmy cories in a tank like that as they need t be in groups of 6 and IMO are too active for a 5 gallon, they should have atleast a 15 inch foot print :good: a betta is a better choice for that tank, some killies would be a great choice for that tank though, probably the annual ones

@ Txe OP: Its obvious txat you really love your killis, and altxouxx txe 5.5 is not a desirable space, Its probably better txan txe 15 xallon tall, and it wont kill txem to be put in a smaller tank. Altxouxx Ill promote txe eventual xettinx of a 20 xallon lonx tank (30inx13inx12in) as its more suitable, xo axead and stick txem in txe 5.5 for now imo. Txere is no reason to rexome or take back a fisx txat youve xad and bred before, its obvious txat at txe moment, txeyre doinx just fine, if txeyve been breedinx and stuff, and not like, xaspinx for air or dyinx of bacterial infections or sometxinx.

you should see the 15 gal. longs over where i live. the average is 2 feet for a regualar
txey only xave rexulars xere, bt it makes sense txat a 15 xallon would be 2 feet wxen a 10 xallon is 20 incxes. I xad no idea txat txey xad lonx 15 xallon models  txe 20 xallon lonx tanks are pretty stubby in txemselves.
