Sorry More Pics Of Babies

LOL - you always need more tanks when you get into bettas! I know the feeling... my mother gave up on reducing the flow of bettas once the cupboard in my bedroom spontaneously filled itself with very big glass jars.

The breeders in Australia are all down south, so once you buy the pair, it's almost as much in postage as importing off Aquabid. The only online site that sells them for reasonable shipping fees wants $40 for a HM and $30 for a delta, and you can't see the fish before you buy, so you don't know they aren't trying to fob off SD as HM, or that the fish have got uneven finnage or red wash on a blue or whatever... you can't even pick your colours, you can leave it in comments but there's no guarantee that you'll get what you ask for. and there are NO FEMALES.

There's this bloke breeding HM down in the city that I'll get some off if I ever get the chance... he's the only breeder I know of and he's got them when they're small, and he will show the parents if you ask. The problem's getting them home. I only ever go there with my parents on all-day shopping sprees... still, I have snuck rescues home before, top up the water in the bag and add some ammo lock and they seem to be okay as long as they aren't left in the hot car.

Keaper's brother is gorgeous!!

Never apologise for posting more great pics of your gorgeous babies!!!!

yea you never know what the fully grown betta will look like. I was treating one of my guys for what I thought was fungus/velvet on his head. nope not velvet. my forest green rt betta has gold scales on his head...very different, under close observation a few of his sisters have the same thing very faintly.

your babies are lovely netty:)

Thanks Newfishy :good: Lol.....at you treating his lovely gold scales!!!!

Thanks Sarette :good: Just trying to figure out this camera a bit better so taking loads of pics at the moment lol

Laura.......such a shame it's so difficult for you to get the Bettas you'd like. Maybe this guy you mentioned will be able to sort something out for you eventually!!

Oooohhhhh, Netty,
I'm glad you have the grace to apologize for showing people in distant countries such incredible fish when they'd have to win a lottery to get any imported.
It's downright mean...
(Seriously, love the pics, but holy cow, I'm envious of those living near you - lucky them, and I hope their floorboards are good and sturdy...)
And it's particularly sad - even sadder than the state of my deprivation, since I want them simply because they're sooooo beautiful - that LauraFrog can't get any, because she'd breed them and all of Australia would benefit.

LauraFrog - the long stay in the bag may not be ideal, but bettas do get sent around the world in horrible little bags - and if you had some lovely HM to breed, you could help improve the situation throughout your area.
It would be a humanitarian effort...

Wow, newfishy, I'm so glad you have such an excellent spawn - are you going to torture us with pics, too, please?
Green and gold! (ouch, I'm suffering more, and haven't even seen them yet - irridescent green being my favorite) and sound more lovely than your dragons - I'm already starting to mentally refer to you as The Golden One...

they are stunning I love that little ft, hes too cute!!!

Thanks.....he's a fiesty little boy with loads of attitude lol

Lol.....thanks Sy......hope you're wearing the bib I posted for you :p Don't think it will be long before Maddie's bedroom ends up down in the lounge with the amount of tanks she has in there now

Thanks, Netty, haven't found the bib yet, but when I do, at last I can quit splashing when I type.
Now, what new excuse can I find to use for typos?

Somewhere I came across calculations done by a fish-keeping structural engineer which showed that unless there was an actual fault in the construction, anything under about 55 gallons should be OK in virtually any area of flooring in most houses.
Although it's not required to build floors in closets to the same weightbearing specs, which is why I'd like to get boards across if/when I get mine set up for (smaller) tanks, in spreading the load.
I have heard references to houses built within the last few years being different, as official building standards have apparently hit rock bottom.
But other than that, and bearing in mind that relevant problems may not be evident from the perspective of the average person, a lot of us are probably able to have more tanks than others might think feasable.
Of course, where possible, we already do...

Yep, I don't think having any more tanks in my room is such a good idea lol. There is four in there at the moment and I think it's time to invade the space downstairs again. I could easily fit a 3gal next to the tank with angels in it downstairs. And I'm sure we can make room in the snake room to fit a few tanks along the back wall... Of course when I say a few, I mean a whole stack, probably 2 20gals on the bottom row, with lot's of 1.5-h gals above it. Mmmh... yess...

It is great living near Netty. Believe it or not I've been a member here for quite a long time and had bettas before that time too.. I never realized Netty lived just a 5 minute drive away until we met through our reptile keeping hobby! I used to moan constantly that the only bettas we got round here were Vts with the occasional Cts. So now I'm making the most of having some great variety and really healthy, quality fish!

I like your attitude!
And you've just made me realize that there could easily be someone raising bettas maybe even half as nice as Netty's up the street or in the next block...

Will try to get some more pics soon. Just been really busy this week getting our Reptile room up and running....and had workmen around too who have been getting in the way lol
