OK, got Jai yesterday (rare colouring, spotted in LFS, had to have) but only have a 1g tank that he's in, very happy - built me a bubble nest overnight.

Saying that, he is NOT staying in there!!!

My original plan was to get him a 12 x 8 x 8 (3.3g) but when I went to LFS today, I spotted a 24 x 8 x 8 that I decided to bring home and make a 3 compartment barracks out of. Now, asking over on the tropical chat forum, it's turning out that the space I have for the tank (whether it was the 12 x 8 x 8 OR the 24 x 8 x 8) is only just 2cm higher than the tank and I would have to take it out of the gap to do water changes.

So now my plan for the barracks is foiled and I am going to have to get the 12 x 8 x 8 after all.

Now the problem with this is, I know I'm not done buying bettas, so whilst I would have had the barracks all controlled through a cable tidy, 1 heater, 1 filter, I am now in a situation where I need to have separate plugs for each tank I decide to buy.

So, a heater isn't a problem really, but then if I'm putting filters in every single tank we're getting into lots of plugs, lots of wires, lots of potential accidents with small children and stupid husband.

Would they be ok with JUST a heater (the hydor 7.5w is perfect for this and is a great price) and then 100% weekly water changes?

Would this be the best way? Or do you have any other advice for me at all? (like, don't buy lots of bettas then it won't be a problem :p)

Now you know i would never say don't buy.

None of my male betta tanks are filtered, i just suck out the poo and uneaten food every other day and do a 100% each week (i think its more of an excuse to spend time playing with them ;) ) My CT has lived like that for 6 months and is happy as larry (who ever he is) and the rest seem to be doing ok too.

so....more bettas lol
