can someone give me some pointers what youy would need to do differently to a tank for a single betta male for a sorority tank. Ian's just got his in a little 5g hex on his bedside table. And we were just discussing getting another for my side, possibly with a female or a couple. Now obviously with the males it's just 1 per tank, with females I know you can keep them together but how much room do they all need, there can still be a fair bit of agression with the females right? do you need to provide lots of cover/caves or anything like that for them? Erm anything else helpful anyone can tell me would be good! :good: :D

I'm pretty sure the minimum to keep together is 6. From what I've heard, people keep that many in 10G tanks. I've never kept females together, but I would guess a nicely planted tank with some hiding spots would be best for them.

the suggested numbers are four in a ten gallon, with six being the max so that they can all have their territories. The tank should be well planted and have lots of places for them to hide from one another if they need to. As for adding a male, you'd need a larger tank than 5-10, probably about a 20.

oh, and as a side note, those are all in US gallons, i don't know the UK gallon conversion :)

oh I didn't measn I'd keep a male with them, just I'd have my females and Ian would have his male. But we'd want to get a tank to match his which is 5g so it looks like a sorority isn't really possible. Might just find myself a pretty female and have her on her own.

:D
