Okay so I just added some more fish in my tank yesterday and everyone was excited to feed them I guess. :/ So I dropped a small pinch in there and since they were new to the tank they were more interested in exploring it than eating. So most of the flakes sank to the sand substrate which looks awful IMO. :/

Then lastnight I decided to take pics of my fish and my little brother wanted to take pics as well. I told him he could while I downloaded the ones I took and fixed them up and re-sized them and stuff. So he went in my room and put a whole bunch of fish flake in the tank. The whole bottom of the fish tank was covered in bright fish flakes! I had to gravel vac the leftover pieves which took me about 20 minutes and about 10% of the water was removed. I have no more dechlor so I couldn't add anymore so the filters sounded rather loud that night. :grr:

Then this morning my boyfriend asks if he can feed the fish "a small pinch" of food so I said yes thinking he would only put a small pinch in. He didn't want to touch the "smelly" fish food so he just tapped the can of food and a whole bunch spilled in! Now my sand is filthy again! I just came home a few hours later when he put the food in this morning and half of it is eaten but the other half is just rotting. :/ Now I have to syphon everything out, go buy more dechlor and then get ready for school all in 1 hour and 30 mins!

I'm so frustrated. I need to hide the food and strap the openings of my tank down.

 Hide the fish container, other people always add to much food to the tank, .

I can't really hide it because my brother needs it to feed his fish as well. He doesn't overfeed his fish but he overfeeds mine. Weird.

Probably trying to kill yours off, only kidding.

 Haha. I just think he thinks since my fish are bigger and my tank is bigger they need more food. :dunno: He only has my molly and her fry in the 29 gallon.

My kids are always trying to feed the fishy tank. I went out and bought one of those 7 day pill case things. Once a week I fill all the days. That way if someone gets there before or after me we don't add to much. So far we haven't had an issue with anyone missing a day. Works well maybe you can get you for all your helpers. :D
Good luck

Its very difficult to explain to a non fish keeper about feeding the fish, for my familly i have got a series of "prepackaged" feed bags (frozen and un frozen) so if im ever out or they want to feed the fish, they simply look at the bags! for a treat i have a few cichlid sticks and flakes labelled as "snack" and in the freezer is a mix of malawi/krill marked pretty fish, lance fish/bloodworm marked "ugly fish" (they hate my birchirs lol) and then a "general" for the community based fish, all i have to do is say yes five them "X" and they can drop it in, simple!

I feel your pain. My dad is always coming in my room to feed my oscar... which is weird, since my dad used to hate all my fish with a passion
Dad went on a three day business trip last week and one of the very first things he did after he got home was go feed my oscar :p

I hid all of the food.

I came home from night school about an hour ago and I walk into my room and look into my tank and what do I see?

3 sinking wafers and about 15-20 floating cichlid pellets! I only have two cichlids (my two blue rams) and the pellets are too big for their mouths! The only daytime bottom feeders I have are my two cories and sometimes the goldy. :/

So I asked everyone if they fed them and they all said no. So I called up my boyfriend since I knew he came home for about an hour and then left again to his friend's house. This is how our conversation went:

Me:"Hey hunny did you feed the fish...AGAIN?!"
Him:"Yea...Why?"
Me:"I thought I told you to not feed them anymore today. I just had to vacuum all of the sand all over again because of all the flakes you fed them this morning."
Him:" I know, but Toggle (our goldy) was eating sand and he was so hungry!"
Me:" :sly: Goldfish will eat ANYTHING. Put your finger in the tank and he will try to eat it. And he wasn't eating the sand. He sucks it up and spits it out. The rams do the same thing, so do the cories."
Him:"Well he was eating it..."
Me:"Is that all you fed them? "
Him:"Yea..."
Me:"DID YOU PUT CICHLID PELLETS IN THERE TOO?!"
Him:"Yea.."
Me:"HOW MANY?!"
Him:"About 15 or 20. You should have seen he ghost shrimp! They like clung to the pellets they were starving!"
Me:" Just don't feed them anymore unless I am there..please? "
Him:"Okay..Well I have to go now."
Me:" Okay I will see you later then?"
Him:"Yea, I love you. Bye."
Me:" Bye bye..." :/

 I don't let people feed my fish without my supervision, although my dad can, he knows what my fish eat and how much they need :p

Everyone wants to feed my fish.

Woohoo 12 female CTs and plakats coming soon from wuvmybetta!  :D

time to padlock the tank closed put a closed circuit camera on it with a live internet feed, and a motion sensitive laser alarm.

Or... Have a dummy can of food with electricity connected so they get nuked everytime they touch it and eventually get the idea.

;)
