its odd, ive lost 2 fish on the pat 2 hours and another one is acting odd. i havent added anything new for a while and no one is injured, but im afraid that all my fish will be killed. First my balloon molly started swimming with only one fin, the other was stiff outward. then one of my female bettas was doing the same thing. they passed about an hour later, it was so fast. now a second betta is acting strangely. my tank is a heavily planted 40 gal community, and my water stats are fine. why are my fish dying and what should i do?

What are the exact water stats in the tank?
What are they out of the tap?
How long has the tank been set up?
Possible that yourself or someone else may have sprayed something around the tank?

After you check the water again..... would def do a 50% water change for now... at least until someone can help you a bit better w/ what might be going on.

I presume you mean the pectoral fins (the ones that are at the sides of the body and constantly flutter when the fish is moving to provide balance). My best guess (going on very limited info) is that it's similar to something I have seen... it's a strain of bacterial finrot where the rays of the pectoral fins are affected, resulting in an inability of the fish to move these fins properly. It's often accompanied by dropsy (but this does not always happen). Treatment with antibiotics fixed it for me - I used tetracycline, you can use that, oxytet, erythromycin, streptomycin, kanamycin, endomycin etc. Interpet No1 Anti Internal Bacteria may help.

... I am worried that the meds im using will kill my bacteria, so i have put sick fish in a quarentine tank, but so far none have made it, so i have had 5 deaths in the tank: 3 female bettas, 1 balloon molly and a guppy. 2 more of my female bettas are showing signs of sickness, gulping at the top of the tank, and just haning out up there my other female is no where to be seen, i cant find her., and i have run out of water conditioner so I need to run out before i can do another water change, im just so worried about 2 of my expensive fish, i paid alot of money for my zebra plec and tiger loach and i dont want anything to happen to them. im going yo do another water change later, but at this rate im afraid im not going to have too many fish left =/

all the dying fish seem to have different symptoms... i have a fish on its side at the top of the tank breathing, and one that looks like it has body/mouth fungus ... all this is happening to fast ... should I remove my loach and catfish, as the meds say it may harm them?

What bacteria meds have you used.

Any excess mucas on the body or gills of the fish.
What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
What do the fish gills look like, do they look pale with excess mcuas or red and inflamed.

Can you post water stats please.
How many fish and which type are in the 40 gallon.

Theres no excess mucus that i can see and i dont see anything odd about the feces of the not as sick fish, but the sick ones, since there not eating atm, i cant really say. no red or inflamed gills on any of them though my last female betta has red what looks like bloody under her eyes

the current fish in the 40 are:
5 lamp eye tetra
1 tiger loach
2 dwarf gourami
2 angelfish
1 zebra plec
3 guppyes
3 cory cats

i used to have 6 female bettas, another guppy and a balloon molly but all but 1 female, passed away today and last night. the one that is living has developed very bad fungus over the passed few hours and i have her seperated. I havnt been to the petstore to buy more water conditioner to do more water changes and meds, and I plan to check my water again then. my last water check showed 0 ammonia, 0 nitirite and small ammount of nitrate.

whats the name of the meds you are using
as mentioned before interpet anti internal bacteria med is excellent and wont kill the bacteria in the filter
i've used it with corys , shrimp and other catfish in the tank with no problems what so ever

no where here is interpet sold, im using maracyn and i have lifeguard as a back up.

I would use marcyn one and two as it sounds like you have a bad bacteria infection in your tank.
What does the tank water smell like.

my tank water smells normal, i do gravel vac and water changes weekly... now a guppy and a tetra have what looks like mouth fungus... and my angels arnt really responsive, they usually come right up to the glass when i tap on it, they are just hanging there, I really hope they are ok.

You need to use maracyn one and two with a bad strain of columnaris.

i am using one atm, ill have to buy two at the store. thanks much by the way. oh and i moved my cory cats pleco and loach to a 10 gallon 2 days ago before i put meds in, theylook fine, but should i be treating them too, and with what?

If there showing no signs of illness I would not add meds.
Good Luck.
