ok, it's like this, when ever i open up the tank, even just to feed the fish, all of a sudden, my albino buenios aeiris tetra starts acting up and swims everywere as fast as he can. is that wrong?
Do you only have 1 of those? I think most all tetras are schooling fish (meaning groups of about 5 or more), so it may be that he needs a few more to feel safer. I may be wrong in this, but if I am I'm sure someone else will let you know.
Nothing wrong at all. I find my white skirt and black skirt tetras know when i lift the lid it means lunch and they start swimming around in a frenzy, darting to get to the surface. They often splash water that actually hits me and we're talking about a 2 inch fish! But yes, tetras are known for being fast, active swimmers that get startled easily too. Then they can be very calm and still when fed and feeling secure, but also very skiddish. Your tetras are just acting normal.
I aggree that adding to their numbers will make them more calm and feel less scared. You should have atleast 5 depending on the size of tank. I currently have 9 of my tetras.
Tetras are shoaling fish and if he is on his own, the advised minimum amount for any tetra shoal is 5-6 tetras- you will find your tetra feels alot more secure once he is in a shoal and will be able to feed much better without being in fear of other fish.
I agree - he gets startled and looks for somewhere to hide or swims around really fast to try to "escape" find some freinds. Part of the reason they shoal is as a defence against preadtors, without this he feels threatened
I'm sorry to hear. I had 1 neon that died the day before I went to buy more neons. Nothing was wrong with him that I could see, the water was great, he just died. I have heard that schooling fish that are alone can actually die from it. If you do decide to replace him with more tetras, be sure to get a group of them.
