My female krib is staying in the bottom corner of my tank below the filter intake and she is opening her mouth rapidly but not fully closing it, kind of looks like when they're trying to spit something out but nothing is coming out. She has been quiet all day but did come out and eat so I figured she was ok. Normally she spends all day swimming around and chasing my boy Krib but today she's not gone near him and has barely left the corner.

In every other way she seems fine no visible symptoms.

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 30 (tap=40)

pH 7.6-7.8

Temp 26 C

Anyone know what it could be, if anything?

Thanks

Ok forget that post, i was just looking closer at her and i noticed in her mouth was a ball of fluff. I guess she was choking. I tried to net her to pull it out but in the chase the fluff seems to have gone, I'm hoping she's managed to spit it out rather than swallowed it... guess time will tell :/

Hows the fish now.

Oh good.. Wilder on the case!

She's still in the bottom corner but not "coughing" anymore i guess she swallowed it. Is there anything I can do? Peas?

Thanks

Strange.
The ball of fluff was it attached to the mouth before.
Yes peas will helps to flush it through.

The ball was in her mouth with a couple of hairs of fluff hanging out her mouth. I could of just grabbed her and pulled it out if i'd of caught her before it disappeared. I didn't see the fluff this morning but she has been doing this "coughing" all day so maybe she only just managed to bring it up. Do you think i should feed her some peas now or wait and see what happend over night?

Thanks

You can remove objects from the gills as well as the mouth, make sure the gills are clear of objects.
I would leave her for now.
Strange never seen a post like this before.

My fish always seem to have unique problems!! She was just madly shifting sand through her gills and then started eating the cucumber that is currently in the tank. She seems a lot better right now so maybe she's passed it out through her gills or something?!?

I'll let you know any updates.

Thanks again for your reply Wilder, always good having someone who knows what they're talking about.

Lol.
Glad she settled down now.
Good luck.
