Hi
Over the last week or so we've noticed this white stuff in the tank. Initially I saw it just in one corner, then, each time we put an algae wafer in the tank, by next morning it has been covered over by this stuff. It's now creating a network of shapes on stones and over bits of sand. It appears to grow very very quickly - this pictures below were taken this morning, the stone now looks completely different, a lot of this network has disappeared but close to the bottom of the stone new growths have appeared that look a little like white things hanging off the rock (it overhangs a little).
The other picture is of two algae wafers invaded.
Can anyone identify this - or should I be calling on Doctor Who?

Well the person equivelent of dr who would be Tom barr  .Pm plantbrain, he should be able to help you.

Thanks Cheesy Feet - I've tried a PM to Plantbrain but had no reply as yet.
Yetti - have you any idea what sort of fungi or do you know of anywhere I can find out about fungi in aquaria?
Thanks

Normally if an algae wafer was going mouldy the mould stuff (fungi whatever lol) will just go all fluffy white and maybe a bit blue.I don't have a clue what that is

Well, to get rid of fungi, fungus and whatever mold you might have in an aquarium, is to increase water current and not let any food decompose in the tank, it's not really dangerous at first, but it is ugly.

Haha, contrary to what Yetti says...I think it looks amazing!! :) I'm sure when its extensive it looks terrible but the vein like appearance on the rock is amazing!! :)

Oh believe me, it does not look so nice when it gets to spread all over the gravel or sand. =)

That's interesting Yetti - this tank has quite a strong current in it, but the area that has this problem is in the far corner from the current source and so probably the quietest part of the tank. We have drastically reduced feeding and are shortly going to change/clean the filter media. This isn't due for a couple of weeks, but the indicators are showing a slightly reduced flow rate so perhaps that boost will help.
Thanks for your comments

Scorphonic - LOL pretty at the moment, but I don't want to find out how it looks if it spreads!

i found something that looks like that on my bio wheel for the tank i just took down so i think it might be dead nitrogen fixing bacteria? not sure about that
but it definatly looks like a fungus
