Hi all,

There's something on the "lips" of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, my three giant danios. I noticed a white-ish mark a month or two ago, but since all three fish seemed to have it, and the fish weren't acting strange, I just assumed it had always been there and I'd never noticed it. Today I got a better look, and it's definitely gotten worse, especially on the one.

Tank size: 44 US Gallons
pH: 7
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 30
tank temp: 78

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): The bottom "lip" of all three danios is a little bit white and puffy, and has been for at least a month or so. On of the fish, it's now looking more like some kind of fuzzy ulceration, if that makes any sense.... The fish aren't acting any differently, and they're still eating normally. And I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but these fish are getting old - I've had them for either five or six years.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 30%, weekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Nothing; just Prime at water changes

Tank inhabitants: 3 Giant Danios, 1 platty, 1 neon, 2 black skirt tetras, 4 swordtails, 2 ghost shrimp

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): The 4 swordtails went in yesterday, but this problem was around before they were...

Exposure to chemicals: none

On these two fish above, you can kind of see the white mark.

Here's a comparison. You can see the one on the left definitely has something going on...

And here are two more photos....

I wish I could get better photos, but these guys don't exactly stop and pose....

Looks like they have mouth rot (which is basically columnaris of the mouth), use a med like Pimafix to clear the infection up :good: .

one more question - is this something that's contagious? i.e., should I treat the whole tank, or just stick the danios in quarantine and treat only them?

Yes it is treat the whole tank.
